You won’t want to miss this discussion with award-winning Wall Street Journal journalist and Deputy Bureau Chief of Careers & Workplace bureau, Vanessa Fuhrmans. She’ll explore the impact of COVID-19 on the labor market, parents and families (predominantly women and people of color), and what the future looks like. You’ll learn about the effects of the pandemic on the workforce, as well as what it means for the economy, which industries will be impacted, and why “normal” will never be normal.

About the Speakers:



Vanessa Fuhrmans, Wall Street Journal
Vanessa Fuhrmans is deputy bureau chief of The Wall Street Journal's Careers & Workplace bureau, where she edits and writes about all things concerning our lives at work and the workplace. A 20-year veteran of the Journal, Ms. Fuhrmans is a 2020 recipient of the Newswomen's Club of New York's Front-Page Award for her coverage of women in the workplace and has served two tours as a foreign correspondent in Germany. Prior to the Journal, Ms. Fuhrmans was a correspondent for Bloomberg News and has a Master of Science from Georgetown University’s Edmond A. Walsh School of Foreign Service.  

 
Jennifer Mercer, Paladin Management 
Jennifer E. Mercer leads the Paladin Strategic Communications group and has more than 20 years of experience providing strategic communications counsel to companies large and small. Named a 2021 “Top Women in Communication” honoree by Ragan/PR Daily, a 2021 “Top Women Dealmaker” by the Global M&A Network, and a 2020 “PR Person of the Year” by PR News, Jennifer works closely with internal teams and company advisors expertly creating internal and external communication strategies around important initiatives including restructurings and transactions, mergers and acquisitions, litigation support, and crisis management, to strengthen brands and manage reputation.

A veteran of the communications field with both corporate and agency experience, Jennifer has led complex communication campaigns for numerous companies across a broad range of industries including energy, financial services, homebuilding, retail, media, non-profit, pharmaceuticals, professional services, restaurant, retail, and technology.

Prior to Paladin Strategic Communications, Jennifer served as Vice President and leader of the Strategic Communications group at Donlin Recano & Company and before that, she launched and led the Strategic Communications group at Epiq. Other experience includes developing and managing critical communications programs for clients at some of the world’s leading public relations firms including MWW Group, Hill & Knowlton, and Sitrick & Company.




Elton Ndoma-Ogar, AlixPartners
Elton possesses 25 years of professional experience, with 17 of those leading organizational transformation as a Diversity & Inclusion Leader. Through thought leadership and a strong passion for change he operationalizes D&I in the firm’s culture, Elton has had success leading D&I efforts in organizations in both crisis and growth.  His hands-on approach to D&I is welcomed by organizations that are committed to building stronger and more productive teams, while generating a positive and cohesive environment.  With a clear focus on business results, Elton works with senior leaders to leverage D&I as a tool to drive the growth of the enterprise.  Several of Elton’s diversity initiatives have received global recognition from media outlets such as CNN, Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal, Vault, Black Enterprise, among others. 

Elton joined AlixPartners as the Director of Diversity & Inclusion for the Americas/ Asia in September of 2019 and was promoted to the global Head of Diversity & Inclusion in June of 2020.

Elton earned his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and his MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
